Tilt Hydrometer or Fermzilla

Post by wader98 » Fri Jan 03, 2020 10:43 am

Got a couple hundred bucks for Christmas that the wife said I could spend on whatever I wanted....
So I was potentially looking at a Tilt Hydrometer or the new Fermzilla.

Thoughts?

I’m thinking about getting a tilt hydrometer as well.
So would be interested to hear people’s thoughts / first hand experiences with them. Also - best / cheapest spot to order.

I like mine. Had a few small issues with missed reading due to Krausen. The one huge downfall I have is battery life. The batteries are super expensive and I find they only last a brew, two at most.

Thanks,
Kegged: Maritime Fog (NEIPA), All Ryell'ed Up (Rye APA)
Fermenting: Seltzer Water
On deck: Something over the Holidays

I have the Tilt. I haven't had any issues with it and love the online reporting option. No guesswork on when fermentation is complete.

Just to add a bit more, I used it 10 time between January 2018 and September 2018. It sat idle from Sept 2018 until last night when I finally started brewing again after a bit of a hiatus. I use a Raspberry Pi running TiltPi for communications. No issues with battery life, communications, etc. Image

Seems like version 2 and 3 are better on the battery life. Looks like amazon is my best bet to order one. I think I’ll be pulling the trigger on one this week.
Thanks for the feedback

Order yet??
Looks like amazon was out of stock (Canadian and American).
I contacted Northern Brewer and they redirected me back to the tilt website - because they said international shipping would be better through them.
I think I’ll keep my eye on Amazon and wait for them to be back on there.

Long story short I used the money on my dog (stupid vet bill)...but got a 200$ gift card for noble grape from my neighbor who wants me to make her wine so I bought a fermzilla after all.

amazon has them in stock : https://www.amazon.ca/Wireless-Bluetoot ... B0798RFMXP
or a couple $ cheaper (and free shipping) from here : https://cambridgeenviro.com/products/tilt-hydrometer

I'll probably wait until income tax refund comes back to get one.
