For the uninitiated, is an airlock unnecessary?

Well, you probably need something to vent just incase. The beer was probably finished when they filled them, but anything can happen...

I'll assume when they release this, Chris will ask me to get some for you guys.

Picaroons might be having their first cask ale (Yippee IPA) at Garrison this week. I'll find out some other details about the barrels if they do, like where they got the barrels from and when they think it'll be ready.

Update from their Facebook page:

CASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE
S U R P R I S E
This Thursday, Feb. 2, marks PICAROONS' first public release of it's Cask conditioned beer. This will be available at The Garrison District Ale House / Up Wine Bar in Downtown Fredericton at 4PM.

Available this week will be our signature, bronze medal winning, Yippee IPA. As well as coming straight from the Cask, this Yippee IPA has been dry-hopped with Amarillo and Cascade hops. If you feel like having more than your fair share at the Garrison, then fill your Growler up with this beauty, next door at The Brewtique on your way home.

Let's have a good time, and drink beer the way it was meant to be drank.
See you Thursday,
CHEERS

So, having spent a fare amount of time with Esty this afternoon he let me know a few details about the oak barrels. They did come from Glenora, 10 of them, but 3 are being used for Winter Warmer. 3 are being used for blonde (I think, sort of had a few drinks by this time), and best bitter was going to fill the remaining barrels. In a month's time they're going to test how well WW is coming along in the barrels. I might see if I can pull some strings and see if I can be part of the initial tasting.

From their Facebook page:

REMEMBER THESE OAK BARRELS??! We got them from Glenora a while ago, and had a whole lot of fun by aging some WINTER WARMER in them. The result is a really wonderful and BIG tasting Oak Aged Winter Warmer. We are pretty happy with it, as it was purely experimental; we definitely hope we can recreate it in the future. We only have a VERY SMALL AMOUNT, but you can try it out at the Garrison District Ale House / Up Wine Bar in Downtown Fredericton. .. like right now.. and while it lasts!

See if The guys at GDAH will let you fill a bottle from the barrel. Or a growler for the PEI or Halifax crew.
