Nothing Special, just a Festa Brew Wheat until I get the new boiling equipment up and running.
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:

I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber

I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I was confused when sparging last night when I realized the water I was using didn't add up to enough to allow for grain absorption. Kept going as this was an experiment with this set up. Ended up adding some more water to the sparge and kettle and even topping up to about 11.5 L I was aiming for in the carboy. To my surprise my OG was 1.060 and the calculated OG was 1.059. I just started looking through my Brewtarget settings and realized it indicated to add 2 L to the BK and another 2 L to the fermenter.
Well, it was a learning experiment.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Brewed up my Gateway Kolsch and doing the Aussie no-chill cuz I still haven't fixed my immersion chiller. Used a pound of my homegrown fresh/frozed Mt. Hood as late additions. Probably too many hops for a Kolsch by style, but fuck it - I still have to drink it, so I'll add what I think it needs.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I just finished my first Brew-in-a-bag - successfully, I think. A simple American Pale Ale, because I didn't want to waste too much good stuff if it didn't work.
My brew bag was too small (it's something Marta uses occasionally when wine-making, though I have no idea what for) and rectangular; and my burner stand is way too high (nearly 4' because it was designed as part of a three-tier system). The result was that I couldn't actually raise the brew bag out of the wort on a pulley, because there wasn't enough clearance beneath the rafters, and when I did get it high enough, it drained from both bottom corners, which were just a touch wider than the kettle. I would expect Jimmy's design to drain from the middle of the base.
So, I'll be shortening my burner stand, getting a new brew bag, and then putting 1 burner, two kegs (my HLT and boil kettle) and a pump on the market soon.

I know someone who may want those kegs whenever you do decide to get rid of them. keep us posted.derek wrote:and then putting 1 burner, two kegs (my HLT and boil kettle) and a pump on the market soon.
other than the height difficulties, it sounds like you rather liked the simplicity of BIAB?

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Definitely. Cleanup is at most half the time. Now, I am used to doing two 40l batches together - mashing the second while boiling the first - and with everything in one kettle I can't do that, but if I want to do 80l in one day, it certainly won't take longer this way than it used to.CorneliusAlphonse wrote: other than the height difficulties, it sounds like you rather liked the simplicity of BIAB?

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Finally brewed my IIPA today. It went very well...was 0.004 off my target gravity...not bad for my 2nd AG brew! Even managed to get all my bottles cleaned for the Dogfish Head 60 min IPA clone and bottled that after I finished brewing. I used 1056 yeast I harvested from the Dogfish head brew and made a starter for it. Looking forward to how this turns out...hopefully I pitched enough yeast!

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Weather/Time permitting:
Toasted Oat Pale Ale: A while back I toasted some oats to ~20L - made the house smell like oatmeal cookies, I want to see if it adds anything different to a beer than 'regular' oats would.
If I can get than same smell/taste into a beer, the next time I'll hit it with a good dose of biscuit and C120 for an oatmeal raisin cookie beer
