Hello, just joining the board and trying to follow the newbie guidelines :)

Where did you learn to brew?
First bit was living in FL years ago from a local brew store. Lately, in Nick Horne's garage.

How did you start brewing?
Picked up a partial mash kit from a brew store that was co-branded from my local brew pub hangout. It was a basic starter kit, total disaster :) burnt the grains, but still drank a lot of it. Still one of my favorite recipes, minus the burnt flavour.

How long have you been brewing?
Back into it for a few months, 5 years the first time around.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
Just by myself in FL and when I first moved to Halifax.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
IPA!

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Garrison as of late.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Hops, beginner, eager

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
My Daughters! Finally have them filling bottles for me to cap, need a little more time before they are around the hot pots.

Where did you learn to brew?

My mom's kitchen. She doesn't miss the smell.

How did you start brewing?

With two of my friends in college. One wanted to save money, the other wanted to try making fruit beers. I actually had little interest in it at the time, and may have only been brought in because I had a car. They lost interest after two batches (a Festa brew type American "lager", and a brown ale from Dave Miller's Complete Handbook of Home Brewing), and I kept going.

How long have you been brewing?

The Festa brew kit was in 2004, and I started all grain around the end of 2005.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?

Just the two friends listed above, although my brother comes over to help sometimes.

What’s your favourite style to brew?

American Pale Ale. It's something that I like to keep on hand at all times, and is fairly easy to make.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?

I don't buy beer for home much, but if I'm at a bar I'll usually look for Propeller bitter or pale ale.

Three words that describe your brewing style:

Simple, clean and balanced, although the clean part hasn't been working quite as well in this heat.

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?[/quote]

To judge by the beers I've had at the events, any one of you. Since I've mostly taught myself from fairly old books and the internet, there's probably a lot I could learn from other brewers.

How long have you been brewing?
I did the cans for about 6 months, and thought...there MUST be a better/ more interesting way...so made the ag leap in June (only done 5 to date)
Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
Just myself, not counting helping w/hers
What’s your favourite style to brew?
Ones that work out??? I love the variety...I never was a beer lover, till I happened to have a friends homebrew....
What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Still figuring this one out (see above!) Todays flavor is La Trappe Tripel tho, despite the trouble it gets me into....
Three words that describe your brewing style:
Is it OK?

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?

Shawn, owner/brewmaster, Meek Brewing Co. in Fredericton, NB.

Where did you learn to brew?
A lot of reading... mostly "How to Brew" by John Palmer, and internet forums. Looking back, I really wish I just had someone to walk me through the process... I think it would have been a lot less daunting!

How did you start brewing?
My wife and I took a trip to Belgium a few years ago... Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp... and that's when I realized what beer could actually be. I had no idea up to that point that there were so MANY styles of beer, and that they were so tasty. When I got back home, I eventually started reading and realizing that you could actually brew these styles on your own. I finally got around to buying the start-up equipment, and dove in and brewed an extract Amber Ale... I was immediately hooked, as we all were the first time.

How long have you been brewing?
About 2.5 years... the first 8-9 batches were extract, then I moved to all-grain.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
I've never actually brewed anywhere other than at home. And I've discussed methods, etc. with others, but have always brewed on my own, or with my wife or brother assisting.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
I love brewing different styles, but I've probably brewed more American IPAs than anything else.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
I've become a big sour fan over the past two years, so sours are definitely up there for me (esp. Cantillon, Jolly Pumpkin, and Allagash's wild ales).

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Precise, loose, contradictory.

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
Tough one. With a homebrewer, I'd say Michael Tonsmeire (madfermentationist.com). Professional, it'd be hard to say no to Jean Van Roy, the owner of Cantillon - I'd love to see some of his techniques in practice!

Where did you learn to brew?
Trial and error, Brewnosers Forum, How to Brew and a some help starting out from Noble Grape

How did you start brewing?
My wonderful wife bought a starter kit for me one Christmas. Little did she know that it would become an obsession and take over a good part of the basement!

How long have you been brewing?
I started with Festa Brew and extract / steeping kits from Noble Grape in early 2008 and kept them going for 4+ years. In early 2012 I started making some 1 gallon all grain recipes on the stove top after receiving a beer recipe book from my niece. That's also when I stumbled upon the Brewnosers. From there, I moved quickly to partial mash / extract brews and then to all grain, both 20L BIAB or a 40L traditional and 3-vessel brew day. Recently, I downsized my gear and went with the RoboBrew, with no regrets.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
For the most part, I brew alone, using it as a therapeutic relaxation time. However, I have brewed with my own gear at Spindrift for open brewery day, as well as on their pilot system for an entry in the Stillwell Open.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
I'm partial to sessionable brews. Ordinary Bitters, pale ales and more recently lagers are my go to beers, although I also enjoy a good IPA. I've also done a few Flanders Red with good success.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
I really have no favorites - it always depends on the mood and surroundings.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Relaxed!

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?

Where did you learn to brew?
Both trial and error in the kitchen (mostly during college), and sitting in front of the computer or in an armchair reading about brewing. Charlie Papazian's 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing' was a huge influence.

How did you start brewing?
There was an old book kicking around home about the history of/living in Nova Scotia pre-WW1. In it, there was an old lady talking about how she used to make spruce beer when she was younger. The book was published in the 40s, and she was well past her prime. It wasn't really a recipe, just sort of a quick description on how to do it. I was still in high school and wanted to give it a go, so I did. It was undrinkable.

How long have you been brewing?
That was high school. I'm 35 now.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
No one/no where. Well, I have lived in several different apartments since I started brewing, but I don't think that's really what you're asking. :S

What’s your favourite style to brew?
Ales, IPA

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Garrison's Imperial IPA, anything Nash has hopped the shit out of. :D

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Experimental, Hoppy, Strong

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
Nash, without a doubt.

Where did you learn to brew?
Watching my dad when I was a kid, well, I don't think I learned anything except to recognize the smell of beer brewing, but I learned that it could be done. More recently the inter-webs have helped tremendously.

How did you start brewing?
Out of desperation when i was a poor student, I needed more beer then I could afford.

How long have you been brewing?
I started with concentrated can brews in 2001 (very occasional brewing at this point), moved to Festa kits in 2007 and to all-grain in 2010

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
I brew at home, but more recently I've been hosting brew days for various groups of friends.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
My favourite beers are browns, porters and stouts. But I have a soft spot for ESBs and wheats.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Garrison Brown, Picaroons Winter Warmer, and Granite Peculiar to name a few.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Relaxed, social and abundant

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
Any one who brews different styles, also anyone with a different brew setup.

Name,
title, location/brewery

Jon Sigurdsson, brewmaster/bottlewasher/errandboy, Queen Street Breweries, Saint John, N.B

Where did you learn to brew?
Mostly from the internet, but John Palmers book helped me a lot. Lately I have been reading Brewing Classic Styles and Radical Brewing, both full of good information. I also get good tips at Fundy Area Brewers meetings (like how to make lawn-moving beer for less than $10 mostly from uncle bens rice X) ). I am still learning every day, have 5 batches lined up for the next month or two and I am sure each and every one of them will be a learning experience.

How did you start brewing?
Bought a crappy kit, borrowed equipment from a friend and the results where not too bad. After that I did quite a few Festa Brews, before I made the switch to all grain.

How long have you been brewing?
~1 year, but I just recently made the switch to all grain after I got proper gear for Xmas.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
I usually brew with a buddy of mine from work, share the cost, workload and of course the beer.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
A bit too early for me to say, but as I really like Belgian ales and IPAs I guess those are what I am going to brew most of. I also like to use strange ingredients, planning to brew kelp imperial stout soon, and have spruce and birch sap beers lined up.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Belgian trappist ales, my all time favourite is Westmalle dubbel, drinking Westvletern XII at the Westvletern Monastery in Belgium was also one of the greatest beers I've tried. I also like hoppy IPAs and IIPAs, I usually try to have few Garrison Imperial IPAs in the fridge.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Experimentation, good enough

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
Looking forward to have a brewday with the Fundy Area Brewers club, but it would be pretty cool to brew with the monks that brew at Westmalle or Westvletern.

Fermenting: Oud bruin/Vienna Pekko SMaSH
On tap: Nelson dry hopped Berliner/ Scottish Heavy 70-/ NE IPA

Where did you learn to brew?
From a friend when I moved out East. I made meads but they took too much time and beer is better anyways. Then I found you guys… my life will never be the same.

How did you start brewing?
I made meads and figured it was a logical expansion.

How long have you been brewing?
Since 2010, so right about three years now.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
I’ve brewed with some friends, my girlfriend, the SAAZ crew, and Nash at RB.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
I like my stout or LD’s Comfortably Numb, but stout wins on the fact I hate transferring highly hopped beers from my BK to the fermenter. Really though, my favorite brew is when the weather is just perfect to be outside and its late enough in the day that I can have a tasty homebrew while brewing.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
Depends on my mood, but I have really been into three musketeers dopple bock lately. Otherwise anything well made, multi-layered is welcome. I like it when the beer tells a story on my tastebuds.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Tinkering towards bliss

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
I would like to brew with X or LD. Both have helped my brewing tremendously and it would be nice to see their setups. I would like to go electric but want to see some rigs first, so anyone with electric would be good.

Keith ,
Amature Brew Master @ Skynets...

Where did you learn to brew?
I picked it up after I was shown how to make wine. I started with a festa kit, and after a few months I've started Partial Grain. Hoping within the next year or two to step up to all grain batches.

How did you start brewing?
I've loved beer for as long as I can remember, and after a while I was curious about the process and ingredients, and here I am today. Making beer Friends and Family rave about. It's been following recipes so far, but am brewing my first recipe and planning a few other beers.

How long have you been brewing?
I started sanitizing and adding yeast (Festa Kits) in Jan 2013. I've been brewing Partial Grain kits since Aug 2013.

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
I've only brewed at home, typically boys will pop in for a pint while I cook the wart.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
Love em all for brewing. But love a bold, flavorful beer to drink.

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?
I can't pick a favorite. I don't have a frequent goto.

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Eager, Passonite, Committed

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
I'd have to go with Paul Gautreau from Big Rock. Really like his style for going out side of the normal, and having fun with what he makes.

Charlottetown PEI, no name just home brewing!

Where did you learn to brew?

In the basement of my folks house when I was 16. I picked up a can of Coopers lager and just followed the directions. Fermented it in my closet and bottled it up in some old wine bottles my parents had laying around.

How did you start brewing?

Looking for a cheap way to get some beer since I was too young to buy it at the liquor store at the time.

How long have you been brewing?

20 years now. All of it Coopers or John Bull extract kits until a year and a half ago when I discovered all grain! Haven't looked back!

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?

My brother and father have brewed with me a few times. I have four kids so its hard to find time for collaborative brews, just need to squeeze them in when I can.

What’s your favourite style to brew?

Stouts and dark beers are my favorite to drink. I don't really have a favorite style to brew, the process is a blast regardless of what style I am making!

What’s your favourite beer to drink (other than your own)?

Lately its been Gahan's Sydney Street Stout and their Iron Horse (Iron Bridge now). I also love Picaroons Dark and Stormy night and their Winter Warmer when I am in NB.

Three words that describe your brewing style:

I'm still learning

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?

I'd have to go with Jamil Zainasheff because I think I could learn a lot from him and his sense of humor is very similar to mine -from what I have heard from his shows and podcasts anyway. I think we would have a blast! :headbang:

Grunt, Automata Brew Works

Where did you learn to brew?
Books, internets, kits. I still have lots to learn

How did you start brewing?
Festabrew kits. They were too boring, I wanted to learn more

Since 2011

Where else/with whom else have you brewed?
Friends here and there. They sit and drank beer during the boil.

What’s your favourite style to brew?
Ales, IPAs in particular. I'd like to split a batch of stout next, and do something with coffee and molasses.

Fathom IPA

Three words that describe your brewing style:
Seat of pants. Looking to change this with some automated systems and monitoring. Cheap embedded computers are making this a reality. Hope to be able to share in the next few months.

If you were going to collaborate with another brewer, who would it be and why?
Anyone really, I always want to learn more.
