A big grain bill will often do that. I normally get 78-80% for small to moderate grain bills, but big ones I drop down to 70%. That seems very likely - It's BIAB so i figured where my mash is so thin, it would be a little more consistent but I am wrong pretty consistently :pjeffsmith wrote:A big grain bill will often do that. This was my first time shooting for the 1.9xx range w/ BIAB - I'll just try a few more and test in triplicate

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I want to make a simple quaffable pale ale and want to use Ringwood yeast. I'm worried about the attenuation though. Est FG is 1.015 and i want to get it down to at least 1.012.
Thoughts?

I did a chocolate porter a few days ago, and it finished up pretty quickly. Figured it was a shame to let the freezer sit idle, so did up an EdWorts Haus ale today....I've done too many of the bigger ones lately, and am running low on everyday quaffers.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I have a starter of London ESB (1968) going on my new DIY stir plate at home right now. I'm aiming to brew an ESB Sat evening or Sun morning.
I'm also going to make some home made Balgian candi sugar and do up some kind of Abbey Ale soon, maybe this weekend as well.

I'm making an English mild ale tomorrow, but it's steadily crept up to an OG of 1.045, so I guess I should call it a brown ale now. I'm also using Wyeast 1028 London Ale, which I've never used before, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm doing a "dry" run of my Brutus 10 eHerms system this weekend.
Dry in that I will not add grains, only water and hope that I stay dry during the test. If all goes well I'm brewing something for real - not sure what yet though.

+1 to doing a run with water, you're bound to have to fix something, I know I did.

About to mash in on my own version of the PEI double barrel winter warmer. I'm going to age it on oak spirals that were soaked in bourbon.

Just pitched yeast on "No Short Measure" ordinary bitter from BCS. Mash efficiency was off today - 82% instead of my usual 74% even though my volumes were right on. May end up "not so ordinary".

I's like to attempt a honey wheat, I figure that using honey won't really contribute much so maybe honey malt to get that attribute, perhaps some toasted malt as well

I'm going to start putting together a RIS recipe for the weekend - most likely based off (or mirroring) the barrel collaboration brew. I missed hoptoberfest but heard many a good thing about the brew.
