Did I miss this somewhere along the way? Rusty Anchor Brewing Co. in Mill Village, Queen's County.

Well there you go. I'm trying to judge the size of that mash-tun. It looks pretty small.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

How about Schoolhouse Brewery in Falmouth? The only mention I can find is from someone's signature on a post he put on Patrice's Acadie-Broue page (which, of course, was not on tap at Marky's last night!!)
Mind you, it could be as legit as EZMAC brewing...

It's just a meter of time before some clueless outsider stumbles upon our 'Home Brewers Speak' thread and does a write up about those 17 other micros/brewpubs you haven't heard of.

i'm glad to hear that time is going metric  (sorry I couldn't resist). Funny thing is; those 17 nanos have the best selection in the city and NG
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

The owner of that place came into Sealevel last year when I was working there. He wanted to get kegs on a regular basis, but being so far from the valley Randy told him "It might just be easier to start your own brewery, ha ha...". I guess he took Randy's advice  .

Schoolhouse Brewery isn't a legit brewery. His name is Cameron Hartley, a friend of mine and I believe he wants to eventually start a nano brewery of sorts. He lives in an old school house that he restored. Pretty sweet place, but they brewery isn't anything more than a large homebrew setup.

Cool! Just wanted to make sure we weren't missing any new breweries out there.

I was just going to post about them. I was there this week, and this was the first batch they were able to sell. All the previous ones were before they had their license, so were given away. They only had their red on, which was pretty good. Will say more when I am home

Bavarian Purity Law...grrrrrrrrrrrr

I wish they had a description of what they are brewing. Does NSLC have a public list of all registered brewers in the province?

They started brewing 5 or 6 years ago, then stopped last year or the year before. Looks like they're back at it this year because the brewery page on the website had been disabled for a long time. Beer was at about the level of a novice homebrewer who was good at keeping things clean. So not infected, but nothing to write home about.

At least they've removed the reference to "freshly ground" malt and hops.

They did?
We begin by grinding our own malt, barley and hops onsite. Then we combine these fresh ground grains with pure, unchlorinated deep artisan well water.

Oops. I missed the sidebar. But it's not as bad as it was. It used to say "We use only freshly ground malt and hops." Read like they were brewing with a coffee maker. I suppose it still does.

LOL. I noted the "freshly ground malt and hops" on a quick reading, and the all-too-standard reference to brewed to the Bavarian Purity Act of 1516, and thought it sounded like somebody who'd learned to brew from a pamphlet provided by the vendor of his equipment. Why am I not at all surprised that Bobby says it's "about the level of a novice homebrewer who was good at keeping things clean"? There's a lot to be said for cleanliness, though :-)

Any truth to the rumours about Rogue's Roost closing? Did not hear this from anyone connected to it at all, just through the grapevine.

(Disclaimer: Don't want to propegate an unfounded rumour or anything, just some beer ralted gossip I caught wind of)

I haven't heard anything about Rogue's, but it'd sure ruin my trivia schedule. It's packed most times I'm there.

As for the Rare Bird, I was there before I was able to drink. I remember my dad tried the beer, said it was alright. The food was good - probably the best you can find in that neck of the woods. It's part of a family of three businesses including a beautiful inn that was originally built as a house for the (then future) Lieutenant Governor a couple hundred years ago.

Rogue's Roost and the other businesses there have been scheduled to shut down for a long time, they are tearing down the entire block to rebuild new condos and shit. According to Lorne he's not sure if Rogues will relocate or even reopen afterwards.

Yep, there is. Read it in this season's issue a couple weeks ago. Forget exactly how it was put... just pretty much what Nash said - whole block's coming down for a different development.

Tearing down a perfectly good block of somewhat-historic buildings that appear to be in decent shape rather than filling in the countless empty lots nearby, and blocking the historic sightlines in the process? That's the Nova Scotian way!

Cameron was at Big Strange Brew last weekend serving one of his beers and handing out stickers. He said he's working on IP, business plan, graphics, website, etc. at the moment.
