Re: HRM restaurant review
Other burger options include the chicken and waffle burger, the donut burger (served on a glazed donut), the grilled cheese burger (between two grilled cheese sandwiches) and the deep fried burger (wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried, sevced with chili).

So, has anyone hit The Works in Halifax yet? I loved them in Ottawa. I have never took so much time ordering, when you consider no matter what I order it's a burger. I'm going to be going this week for sure.

I eat there (Edible Matters) often. It's one of the best things to happen to HP since the four pad arena went in IMHO. Before EM the area was a gourmet wasteland.

The only thing I don't like about BT is the terrible beer list. They really need to work on that if they expect me back. I'm sure they are busy at it now.

Had the Seafood Stew at H&T this weekend along with the Hopalyptic Doom - they paired up quite nicely!

Since they have a nice wine list, I'd let that slide, but I won't be back unless they guarantee I won't get norwalk again.mr x wrote:The only thing I don't like about BT is the terrible beer list. They really need to work on that if they expect me back. I'm sure they are busy at it now.

Just came from lunch there.LeafMan66_67 wrote:If you're looking for some interesting burgers in the Lower Sackville area, Angles Pub and Eatery on Sackville Drive is a good option. They are in their third of fourth iteration of "Burger Mania".
I just had the Peanut Butter and Fried Egg burger. While the peanut butter aspect doesn't sound right, it is quite good and adds a creamy mouthfeel that goes well with the beef and pickle. Another plus is that most (if not all) of the food is made fresh (no frozen packets). A good family restaurant.
The burgers are very good.

Was in meetings in Halifax all last week, ate (and drank) at Henri House twice (since it was the closest pub to the hotel), decent british bangers and steak and kidney pie. Really liked the Granite Peculiar and Special Bitter that they had on tap.
Also went to some Thai place close by, wasn't that good

A couple of well-known names in Halifax hospitality circles are behind the Stubborn Goat Gastropub set to open downtown this summer.
The partners in the venture, Joe McGuinness (Durty Nelly’s) and Geir Simensen (Saege Bistro, Scanway Catering) plan to open at 1579 Grafton St. in early July. The historic building is the former home of G Lounge, and before that, Seven Wine Bar and Restaurant.
McGuinness and Simensen plan to bring a true gastropub experience to the downtown in a historic setting.
“The location just screams gastropub to me,” said Simensen, who will serve as executive chef. “There will be a really strong focus on local and seasonal foods.”
Gastropub refers to a restaurant with a casual pub-style setting that serves high-end food and beer.
Simensen said the July opening date coincides with the peak of the local growing season, so the initial menu is sure to offer an introduction to local fare for visitors.
The Stubborn Goat will source quality local ingredients, as well as local beer, wine and cider.
“We will take full advantage of its close proximity to Garrison Brewing, Propeller Brewery and Bridge Brewing Co. in central Halifax for libations, as well as the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market for local features for the menu,” Simensen said.
Historic elements of the building will be featured in the revamping of the property, and the second-floor space will regularly feature live entertainment.
“We will provide the Argyle entertainment district with yet another experience,” McGuinness said in a news release.

I don't know what any of it means. Just sounds like a bunch of fucked up buzzwords thrown together as an excuse to hustle up business, as opposed to something that is quite original - which is what is truly needed in this city.

Further to The Stubborn Goat (a name I hate already).

“It's about time that we started celebrating our Nova Scotia Wines,“ says Simensen. “To me that’s just like giddy up, that’s just good times.”

The Argyle entertainment district is getting a new gastropub. Hoping to open its doors in early July, the Stubborn Goat Gastropub will be run by food-veterans Joe McGuiness (Durty Nelly’s), Geir Simensen (Saege), Kyle Drake (Durty Nelly’s) and Ryan Dubois.
“We feel we’re going to bring something a little different to Halifax,” says Simensen of the all-star team. Being the self-proclaimed ‘food guy’, Simensen hopes to change the Goat’s menu monthly based on available local ingredients. “I find as consumers now a day, we’re getting smarter about food, I think we’re leaving behind the fast food generation,” he says.
Equipped with a wood stove pizza oven, customers can expect to see comfort-food items like thin-crust pizza and fresh naan bread with Dragon’s Breath cheese—and to top it all off,a nice Nova Scotian wine or beer. “It's about time that we started celebrating our Nova Scotia Wines,“ says Simensen. “To me that’s just like giddy up, that’s just good times.”
Keeping in tune with Halifax’s relaxed attitude for culinary experiences, the Stubborn Goat will provide a relaxed atmosphere and simple food. “I’d rather have a lot of different plates with their own flavors than a bunch of flavors on the same plate,” says Simensen who also emphasizes a social perspective towards the menu’s design. As for interior, “We’re planning for awesomeness.” With a 30-foot wall made of 100 year old brick, Simensen says they hope to let the building’s rustic character speak for itself.
Oh, and did we mention it’s moving into 1579 Grafton Street, the now previous home to G lounge? While we weren't able to get a comment in regards to the sophisticated bar’s future, G lounge did take to Twitter last night to confirm its closure.
“It's about time that we started celebrating our Nova Scotia Wines,“ says Simensen. “To me that’s just like giddy up, that’s just good times.”

The Lamb Burger is (for those who are in to these sorts of comparisons) the second coming. For those who aren't, it will make you wonder why you've ever spent money at other restaurants.Jimmy wrote:Any Ace burger regulars have a suggestion on which burger is best?

Split Crow - Bedford. Its been a few months since we've been there. Menu changed and beer selection changed. They dropped Propeller products, cut back on Garrison. Added Pump House Lager, but it was way undercarbed and somewhat sweet. Wings were awesome a few months ago - hopefully they were having an off night. Food was overcooked and fries are still frozen (but nicely decorated with dried parsley).
