Great discussion guys. I agree that a pub is too much to take on especially at first. Although selling by the keg or bottle won't have the same profit margin it would be a lot easier. Maybe a tasting room? With member/owners spead all over the region we would have a lot of connections at pubs and restaurants to carry our beer.

I think we would need one person hired who is familiar with the brew house and could draw on our membership for guest brewers often. Maybe have submissions from members and tasting sessions to select recipes a few times per year. Lots to talk about. I think things could work out if we put the time and imagination into it.

I thought the ex-tim hortons space on Ochterlony would be great for a brewery. Lots of space, commercial hookups, central, and probably lots cheaper than halifax. Vacant for a long time now. What would people start with for a brewhouse? 7 Barrel? Larger? How many brands would you want to have available at a time? There's a complete packaging nano for sale (was last month) in the eastern US for 100K. Would be a good start.

I forgot all about that location. A few of us were discussing potential brew pub spots in Dartmouth, proximity to the ferry being a key consideration. I wonder how large the space is, and how much they want for rent.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

If we are looking at strictly a production brewery then I'm sure there are much cheaper places but a high traffic location like that would be great for a tasting room. You would have to sell a lot of pints to cover the rental. All doable. We just need to narrow down the direction.

Yes Ben, that's the spot I was talking about. Not sure on the rent but it sure would make a great retail location. If you sold beer to half the TIBS crowd you'd have money to burn ;)
