My pineapple brew is in the keg and being force carbed. It's a very light and tasty brew.

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
Cracked open a couple of these last night. Wow it was good! Didn't taste the pineapple as much as I wanted but definitely tasted better than Spearhead! Great head retention, citrus aroma and taste. I will no longer modify this except maybe try more pineapple!

Looks real nice. I think I'll run citra in mine instead of Cascade., but I'm glad this turned out for you

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
I got mine carbonating right now and from the sample I did in a 2 liter PET bottle, it is one fantastic brew. Like Gas, I'll be upping the amount of pineapple to try to get more flavour out of it, and I'll hold my hopping schedule to the same as I did.

I've been wanting to make one if these since I had one at hoptobefest a few years ago, maybe once I'm in my new place I'll make a batch.

I noticed people weren't sure of the exact amount of pineapple they were adding, so I weighed mine, and a quarter of a pineapple is about 5 oz. that's what I used in 1 gallon. I plan to DOUBLE it!

I wonder if you could get more flavour by adding juice or puree, I believe spearhead use juice.

I would think juice would give the flavour and sugar without the solids to absorb anything

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
I think I may smash my pineapple up a bit to release the juices more. I might do a side by side batch to compare even?! Gotta perfect this quick, I'm sending it to the Hamilton and Ottawa competitions!
PS I need a better name than Hawaiian IPA, or HIPA, or Pineapple IPA... Maybe IPAnanas? Aloha IPA?

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
With everyone brewing so many variations of this we should try to fill out a few grains on the latest group buy.
I'm going with the below. Some are substitutes. I am getting .1 of the specialty and 1 bag of 2 row which should allow for in around 7 batches. I'm really enjoying this beer and it is going to be a regular on tap.
Canadian 2 Row
Caramunich® I
Caramalt (11-19 lov)
Carafoam®
Munich Type I Malt

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
yea I was very happy with it. I'll be adjusting the hop build from time to time to mix things up, but I'm super happy with the Malt build. Will be using it for a lot of my beers.

Do you use the dextrose to up the ABV?

Yep. I add 1/2 lb. It's listed under Other. Also the Pineapple was fresh puree.

Mainly to dry the beer out a bit more, however it also upped the ABV which I'm always ok with.GasMD30 wrote:Do you use the dextrose to up the ABV?

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
Made my first 5 gallon batch ever using this recipe adjusted for size.... Smells and looks the same but not as efficient... Any suggestions??? With an Post boil OF of 1.050 I only got 18 litres and about 4 litres (I know!) of it is trub..... I guess I should increase my grain bill to deal with the inefficiency?

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
When the yeast fall out they will compact the trub a bit. But if there is a bunch it is probably too much solid getting thru from the mash - what is your mash tun like?also, what temp was the sample at, that can make 4points difference easily.

Re: Hawaiian Pale Ale
Mine, just changed out the Munich light for Vienna, not sure if that's what made it taste better, but it definitely is.
