Looks like maybe I did jinx them. Or maybe they just want to win the cup at home.

Fuck, what an awful final game. 50 minutes of dead air. Congrats to the pool winner, longshot comes through.

Shame it ended in a blowout. One penalty really did it in.

I watched 3 minutes of NHL hockey this season. I saw that devastating hit from behind, turned to my friend, and said "this is exactly why I don't watch hockey any more." Then we waited for the replay, at which point I said something to the effect of "I'm glad he received 5+GM, but it's too bad he won't get suspended, I hope they score a bunch on the PP." Then I left. And found out this morning that they scored 3 goals on the PP, then I was happy. The fact that a brutal hit from behind took place in the 3 minutes of hockey I watched all year had better be a total fluke.

But did you see the hit from behind that didn't get called against the other team shortly before that?

No, the channel came on and the hit came almost right away, we waited for a commercial break and the replay then moved on. What you're trying to tell me is that there were 2 hits from behind in a short span in a championship game? I think this further reinforces my point.

Competitive sports, adrenaline runs high, shit happens. You'd be hard pressed to find any contact sports that situations like that don't happen. Though, perhaps I'm a bit desensitized from playing competitive hockey for 20 years or so.

Not that I'm condoning hitting from behind, it's a horrible thing and one of the most spineless things you can do as an athlete, but sometimes those hits are coincidental. Quite often the player receiving the hit turns when he's already on the rails for a hit without realizing it.

Now those two hits last night, the guys didn't even make an attempt to put on the brakes before drilling the guys into the boards.

That's sports. People get beaned/clipped/chopped etc. When the stakes are high, things happen. My point was cheering for one team to score was a bit one sided. I saw the hit as being even. I blame bad refereeing for the second event.

Exactly. That hit (and penalty) doesn't happen if the previous dirty hit gets called, which cost them the game. I can understand letting them play and not calling borderline penalties but there was nothing borderline about the first hit. The ref being in the scoring lane cost them another goal later on as well. Big impact on their momentum in that game from the refs. Bad refereeing counts for 4 out of the 6 goals. One was an empty netter, so otherwise that leaves one goal each. Shit happens, you can't always control the way the ball rolls, but that's still gotta hurt if you're Jersey. All that being said, LA still outplayed Jersey for most of the series.

P.S. Fuck you Chalmers.

Precisely.

Good on LA for taking it, not hard to see why after only losing 4 games throughout the entire playoffs.
