50Hz PID controller on a 60Hz supply.

Post by maglorski » Wed Dec 21, 2016 12:47 pm

Looking for someone with electrical expertise.

Making the jump into electric brewing and I was given PID controller that says it's rated for 110-240VAC @50Hz.

Can I use it on our 60Hz supply here in Canada? My intent was to use a 120VAC supply.

Thx.

Mike.

I'd look up a datasheet. If it implicitly states 50 Hz only, do not use it. That said, if it's truly 110 Vac to 240 Vac (and not just 110 Vac OR 240 Vac via a switch), most likely it's a switching supply and I haven't come across many switching supplies that don't accept both 50 Hz and 60 Hz line frequencies.
