I'm new to the forum and found this place through the Canadian Home Brewers forum. It's nice to see another brewing community a bit closer to home. I wanted to share my recent project in the event is helps anyone else looking at doing a mini fridge to kegerator conversion.
After much research, I purchased a Whirlpool WAR488BSL 4.4 cu. ft. mini fridge (on sale from Canadian Tire for 226 taxes included) because I read it would comfortably fit 2 corny kegs (20L) inside.
My setup is a little unique as I am running my lines to a tap I installed on my bar top and not directly mounted to the top of the fridge. Because my newly built bar has just enough clearance for a fridge under the counter, I needed to port my lines out the side. I hope this post comes in handy for anyone looking to do the same with this model.
I started by SLOWLY using small bit on the inside of the unit in the upper left hand corner and only broke through the first plastic layer. I then gradually increased the bit size so I could poke around with the bit end manually to see if anything was hiding in the insulation. Every thing appeared clear, so I used a hole saw in the same spot but still only removed the first layer of plastic. I then cleared out insulation by hand. It was a good choice on my part as there appears to be a coolant line covered in foil in the path! I then used a utility knife to cut more plastic south and removed more insulation.... and found another one! I had to use a hole saw smaller than I desired but in the end it was ok! Here are some pics I took along with a tape measure so you have an idea:

From there, I lined up a hole saw on the inside that was clear of each visible line. Started drilling from the inside until only the center bit was through, then drilled from the outside in (since the bit hole now centered the hole saw) for a nice clean outside surface (no metal mess). The picture below shows the distance from the inside ceiling.

And from the outside measured from the top down:

I then used foiled ?aluminium? tape I found for 7.99 to cover up the sharp metal edges as well as seal up the hole:

I then ran the lines from my tap into the side. My 2 lines are inside of 6 foot foam insulation tube I picked up at Canadian Tire for under 2 dollars. It has a slit so you can wrap it around your beer lines instead of feeding it through. I cut a piece and used it inside my tap as well.

The end result:

It was important for me to cut the hole close to that back corner to reduce the length of tube outside the fridge (more inside to keep beer in the line cool). For those interested, my bar top is marble tile. A diamond bit hole saw (not cheap! I borrowed one) was needed as well as a 3/8" bit to create the mount holes needed for the tower. I used my fathers drill press for peace of mind and slow/steady control. I used bolts and washers underneath for a solid (yet removable) mount.
