Snow Day IPA

Post by akr71 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 8:41 pm

This was supposed to be a small stove top batch to use up some hop odds and ends while home with the kids last Friday. The storm never happened, so I only got around to brewing it up last night after work. Lesson learned - 21 liters is too much for my stove to handle. I didn't get much boil off and undershot my target gravity. Some left over extract took care of that.

Thanks Shane!

Despite the boil off issues, I'm pretty happy with they way it turned out (so far). I can see myself doing a lot more smaller batches to experiment with some recipes and dial in others. I just have to figure out what is a reasonable capacity for the stove top boil...

I'm confused about the hop timing. They seem to be out of order, or perhaps you did a few pots.

fixed

On the preview pane in Beersmith it typically lists things in the order that you entered them, rather that the order that they go in the recipe. Chalk it up to poor editing on my part when I copied and pasted.

Basically, I put the recipe together and then while brewing I realized I had more leftover hops than I originally thought, so into the kettle they went. I made the changes to the recipe after the fact.
