fermentation fridge setups
What are you guys all using to keep your beer in proper fermentation temps? I'm hoping there's an easy answer for me as I don't think either of the mini fridges (acquired for free over the years) I have will fit a standard size bucket or carboy in them... Is there a particular mini fridge on the market brand new atm that will work? A wine fridge maybe (bonus if it already has accurate enough temperature control to not need an inkbird)

Re: fermentation fridge setups
I use a 4.4 cubic ft Danby fridge that will not fit buckets, only carboys. I've rigged an stc-1000 controller together and it works great and is easier than you think to put together

What are the main differences between the STC-1000 and the inkbird?

I'm looking for the same, but for 2x carboys in 10 gallon batches. If anyone has positive experiences with certian makes/models, I'd appreciate the insight.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
I still have this fridge, and would trade someone for a freezer that would hold 4 kegs. I used to ferment using the large, semi transparent buckets with liter markings on the side. Looking to get setup with a keezer.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
You need to build the "box" around the stc-1000 whereas the inkbird is plug and play. Depending on how you go it could be cheaper to build the stc unit, but the inkbird is ready to go out of the box. I built my stc with a power bar cord (from dollarama) and the carboard box that a bottle of Glen Breton whiskey came in. It's been like this for 4 years.MitchK wrote:What are the main differences between the STC-1000 and the inkbird?

Re: fermentation fridge setups
Personally, I'd go inkbird. For me, buying the few items I needed on top of the STC-1000, put me close/over the price of the inkbird. I saw the inkbird unit in person at Mike's place last night, and it's a really clean unit.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
Or do you mean the ink bird version of the stc? I think their version is pretty much the same but easier to use

Re: fermentation fridge setups
the 308 is what I was referring to as well.
I am hopefully scoring a pair of mini fridges with the shelves already ripped out and a pair of reconditioned kegs (!?!?!) tomorrow... I'll have to see when I can manage to get out to everwood to grab some inkbird controllers and a few other things for my second batch. I don't have a working car at the moment so I may just have to have it shipped

Beginning to worry that the usual kijiji curse of people flaking halfway through a deal may be underway, so I may just have to brew a saison next since my apartment is 77f ambient (so if the yeast is producing heat at all, I'm way out of ale territory...)

Re: fermentation fridge setups
Hi Jimmy, I have a small deep freeze. It's 32" x 22" and holds 4 ball lock kegs without adding a collar and even has space on the hump for the CO2. Don't know it's age as I got it off Kijiji for my first keezer built. It works good but it will need a coat of paint or a complete enclosure to make it pretty again. See the pictures and if it's acceptable I'll even deliver for the trade.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
For the record I would purchase either of the items mentioned in this thread as being traded for each other should that trade not happen as long as you're ever around downtown Halifax and don't mind dropping it off.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
By the time my stc 1000 was finished the price was around $50.00. I bought an extension cord with a built in light, so I know when the fridge/freezer is working. The 308 is a good price, just plug and play. I would of bought that if it was available when I bought my stc 1000.

Re: fermentation fridge setups
Thanks for the offer, but I'm looking for something in decent shape that can be placed in the main area of our house. If anything changes, I'll let you know.the-mailman wrote:Hi Jimmy, I have a small deep freeze. Re: fermentation fridge setups
SUCCESS.
I now have two mini fridges big enough to hold either clearbrew buckets or carboy + airlocks and two kegs (which could both fit in one fridge if I convert it... IF I cut off one of the keg handles. Probably don't want to do that... Looking at a keezer in the future. One of the keg handles is kinda loose on the body though so it's either cut it off or PL premium it back on because I feel like trying to lift it while full from that handle would have potential for bad stuff)
Gonna have to pick up the inkbird controllers this weekend at everwood

Re: fermentation fridge setups
PS there are cornies that you can track down from time to time that have no rubber coating and a single steel handle on one side. sounds like exactly what you need. I had one before and sold it and have wished I'd kept it ever since.MitchK wrote:SUCCESS.
