Orlando area brews?

Post by Barker » Fri Jan 23, 2015 10:07 am

Hi guys,

The wife and I are visiting friends in Orlando next week. I'm wondering if there are any note worthy brew-spots in the area to visit. Brew pubs? Microbreweries? etc.

This is kind of a last minute trip so I'm trying to get a little research in today before we leave tomorrow. :rockin:
On Tap: What's a tap?
Bottled: Best Case Oktoberfest Lager
Fermenting: Festa Brew Double Oatmeal Stout
Planning: more extract boils

The Orlando Brewing Company, I think it's called, has some organic beers and even a place for kids to play. The Florida Brewing Co has some reasonable beers - Devils Triangle comes to mind. Creative brewery names in Florida.
Red Five Brewery
Anchorhead Steam
Boba Fest
Carbonate ChAmber Ale
Chewbocka
Darklighter Stout
Episode V - ESB
Hoth 45
Ryewalker IPA

Apparently everyone says Cigar City is a must go. It's about a hr outside of Orlando in Tampa. However you could also head to a Tampa Game while you are there.

However I just pulled this up but can't speak to any of the locations.

Untapped has a nearby tab, you could get ideas from that once you are there.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

There are a few small private liquor stores in the area that have a nice selection, but if you get a chance you need to go to Total Wine. The Millennia location stocks a staggering amount of beer. There's even an entire (very large) aisle dedicated to single bottles and cans. All craft.
