Re: Android TV boxes
I have a Chromecast, which works great for streaming from computer, tablet or phone. But is not a standalone device like apple tv.
I use plex on my computer and can stream directly from computer to chromecast and use my phone as a remote.

Re: Android TV boxes
I am using an Avov Vix01 which uses a Kodi client, but is limited only to the plugins available in the mickyhop market app store. I went with it because it was one of two boxes that were supported through a number of providers to stream live satellite feeds including dishnetwork. Of course, this can be done using Kodi and the stalker client as well. The box has its quirks, but I am satisfied with it.

Re: Android TV boxes
I have a Nexus Player with Plex to stream from my file server. The Netflix app is a disappointment, though. It doesn't support the keyboard from the remote control app and there's a bug right now that kicks you out after watching an episode and you have to re-type your password. I don't think Android TV is high on their priority list. My passwords are all randomly generated and very hard to type with a D-pad.
Other than that, I love it.
