Streaming internet radio to stereo
I would like to be able to stream some of the CBC music stations to my home stereo. Anybody know how to do this in a non-painful way?

Hmm, not sure if you can do that.....
You could always get some bluetooth CPU speakers, then put them wherever you want.

I was thinking about this kind of thing, but I have no ideas how that stuff works:

You could always combine an Airport Express (link is to the refurbished version—$15 cheaper) and Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil to stream any audio you'd like to your stereo.
I have an older Airport Express in my kitchen that I use for audio there (streaming from iMac, MacBook Air, and iPhones) for audio in that end of the house as well as outside on the patio.

Re: Streaming internet raio to stereo
Yeah, the problem with that is I still have to go back to the computer. I'm learning by the minute here that these units (logitech, grace, etc) will work for what I want (music controlled from the box, not linked to computer), but I was hoping to find somebody who has some experience before I buy something I regret...

That was actually one of the prime reasons I just bought Nash's Apple TV. I haven't actually _done_ it yet...

BTW, are you doing this yourself? How do you find the ease of use of those apps?

I do use them occasionally. The Radio app can be slow and cumbersome to navigate for sure...

Maybe I should just spend the money on a new Nexus and do it that way off my wi-fi...

Re: Streaming internet radio to stereo
So I set up the AppleTV this morning, and we've been listening to the CBC streams ever since. So that's definitely an option.

Re: Streaming internet radio to stereo
Now I'm really confused. Went to FS and there's lots of tablets, which look they would work, but some are more $$ than laptops. Is the new blackberry any good? It seemed a reasonable price. And then there were teeny little 10'' atom computers for pretty cheap....i don't fucking know what I want now...help

Re: Streaming internet radio to stereo
You could always buy an xbox, and stream over windows media center from your laptop to the xbox. You'd also be able to use netflix (if that's of any interest to you), and there is a new ufc app on the xbox that shows all the weigh-ins, interviews, etc on it.
I haven't tried this, but I'm guessing it works. I stream music/videos over windows media center to my xbox all the time, just not cbc online radio, lol

Yeah, i'd prefer not to do that though. I want something interactive at the stereo so i don't have to be running around the house to make changes.

Re: Streaming internet radio to stereo
So based on what you saw today, you were thinking a small laptop or tablet? You could always go with an ipod connected to the wireless and plugged in to the stereo.

Re: Streaming internet radio to stereo
Well, the tiny computer 'seemed' like a good deal. I think the dell was $269. Many, if not all the new tablets were more expensive, and just marginally smaller. The ipod is an option at $199, and with the mountain of crappy stereos you can attach it to, it has it's charms. The squeezebox touch is out now i think. But other than that, i'm just confused.

I don't know what prices you've seen, or what other products you've looked at, but here is the squeezebox, and squeezebox duet.
I'd kind of like the duet. It hooks up to your current system, and has a built in multi-room remote. I've ordered from tigerdirect before, and don't have anything bad to say about them!
