That's an excellent style of beer. The recipe I used was somewhat based on that and Nash's porter. It's in the recip, section.

Do you find the percentage of smoked malt in BCS is insufficient?mr x wrote:That's an excellent style of beer. The recipe I used was somewhat based on that and Nash's porter. It's in the recip, section.

Edit: The percentage of smoked malt from the recipe in BCS is 19%

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I thought 30% would be better. I can't see too many improvements to this recipe:

Going to try a version of Bees's Knees Pale Ale http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... %27s+knees Sunday morning, weather permitting, but will use Amarillo (1/2 the amount) in place of the Cascade.

Amarillo should work great in that recipe. I'm planning the same at some point this fall.LeafMan66_67 wrote:Going to try a version of Bees's Knees Pale Ale http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... %27s+knees Sunday morning, weather permitting, but will use Amarillo (1/2 the amount) in place of the Cascade.

Brewed up my first pumpkin ale today! Tough beer for only my third all grain, lautering took forever even with 1lb rice husks in the mash but it will be well worth it! Smells fantastic!

Gong to brew a red ale today and soon start another IPA to use up some more of the hops in my freezer (Challenger, Glacier and Columbus).

Honey is a waste in most beers IMHO. Use honey malt instead.goweld wrote:Well, its looking like a Honey Blonde (totally experimenting on this, advice welcome on honey use!), and Pear Cider!

Confident sort of fella, aren't you? I usually wait until it's in the keg before I'll pronounce it "nice".Dirt Chicken wrote:Did a 10gallon batch of a nice APA yesterday!!

Hmm, okay! Unfortunately, the boat has already departed, per say, so we'll see how it turns out; thanks for the advice though! Will give honey malt a try next time.mr x wrote:Honey is a waste in most beers IMHO. I'm planning on brewing up a batch of Hangin' Johnny Irish Red
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm going to try my first barleywine this weekend.
Still don't really know what I'll use for hops but I'm sure I'll be ok.
Should be reasonably well-aged by the time I need something stronger to keep me warm :p

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I might try doing a brew this week, but I doubt it will happen. too much on the go for the next few weeks.
I did manage to do a Helles this past weekend as well as another Gouda.
