Thermostat

Post by HappyHopper » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:00 am

Ok gents here is the problem of the day. Have a new freezer with analog thermostat from Ng . I was lagering in my kitchen
Fridge so I wanted to match the temp, used my mashing thermometer (prob not the most reliable) to see what the fridge temp was. It was at 12c (53.5f) so I set my thermostat to the same after a few days the temp is
Still reading 15c (60f) any thoughts? Where is the best place to put the temp probe?
Anyone know where to get a reliable thermometer for cold
Temps?

Gee that seems high for a fridge temp. Is there a deadband on that controller?

I would turn the fridge thermostat all the way down and let the controller manage the temperature. Is it possible the fridge is shutting off because it's built in thermostat is set warmer than the controller?

Nevermind, I missed the part where you said it was a deep freeze. I doubt that's the problem.

Ya sorry its a deep freeze with converter... And if I dial it down to 0 it shuts off regardless of what the converter is set to.. Any way to bypass the freezer thermostat

I don't think it matters because the freezer would already be set below 0. As long as the freezers default is below what the controller is set at, you would be ok.

Are you using a temperature controller or adjusting the setting on the freezer?

Is the temperature probe in water? I have mine in about 50 mls on top of the compressor bump and it gives decently stable readings.

From what I understand you should set the freezer thermostat to it's coldest setting.

You're bound to get some variance in temperature in different parts of the freezer, unless you have a fan in there to circulate the air. Not sure it should be a 5ºF difference though.

My analog controller has a +/- 2F variance, so if you are measuring air temp, the 5F swing isn't that unrealistic.
