Fledgling Brewist Seeks Collaboration- Hydrostone
New to this forum! It's a pleasure.
Looking for brewing partner and critical palate, interested in recipe development.
Attention to detail and high standard a must.
No discriminations as far as style. Except maybe milds. No milds.
I've been ambitiously brewing solo for a year, have kind of plateaued and am looking to up my game. Collaboration seems the next logical step.
If you are in a similar situation drop me a line.
Alternately, if you are brewing Yoda and looking for someone to share your knowledge with, drop me a line.
All grain only, please.
'Best!

Re: Fledgling Brewist Seeks Collaboration- Hydrostone
Lots of people on the board that can help you out with recipe development and brewing techniques. What type of brewer are you? All grain, extract, etc? We also have meetings every month where you can bring your beer and bjcp judges can give you feedback.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by critical palate, but I've used the following rating system over my extensive amateur beer tasting career:
5 - Amazing (Best)
4 - Awesome
3 - Pretty Good
2 - Good
1 - Not Good But I'll Drink it Anyway
0 - Are you sure this isn't urine?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Welcome!
I'm also fairly near by. My roommate and both went through the bcjp stuff (rank pending) and can certainly give you opinions on any beers you're not sure about!

I still want to see Bluenose take this into really negative territory.
Christofaun has to be the judge of this little competition, since it’s his thread, and we are all applying for the job of brewing partner.
The winner gets to brew with him for the day. I’m in, and hoping to win! It would be fun! (seriously)

Re: Fledgling Brewist Seeks Collaboration- Hydrostone
I've decided that I don't want to glamorize crappy and disgusting beers by giving them equal weighting as good and great beers. If your beer gets a 0 it means I couldn't even finish it, and there haven't been many beers that I couldn't at least finish.GuingesRock wrote:I still want to see Bluenose take this into really negative territory.
As a consolation, here's a comment I had for Keith's Cascade Ale which is probably a 1 for me, but it could've been a skunked can:
Post by bluenose » Thu May 02, 2013 10:28 pm
Dear Keiths,
your one hop series is an insult to beer and a waste of perfectly good ingredients. The only reason I'm going to finish it is because I paid perfectly good money for it. I would rather gargle a monkey shart. I think that's it... no wait, your mother's fat!
Sincerely,
Me

Re: Fledgling Brewist Seeks Collaboration- Hydrostone
Well, so far this forum gets a 5 on this newfangled scale of yours.
For me critical just means you're able to make informed observations about the strengths and weaknesses of a brew, considering not only your personal taste but also what is generally agreed upon as being well brewed. It's also being capable of healthy criticism for whatever you do, or what someone else does and an important part of improving.
I uh, kind of just want to brew with everyone. Is there a lot of home brew trading that goes on? Is that what happens at these meetings?
Also, What's BCJP?

I'm with Sandy. I like milds, but mild is hard! I've made dozens of beers that I've been happy with, but I've never been really happy with my milds

I'd love to taste a mild that would turn me onto the style. What can I say? I'm just not mild about them.
