Hoptoberfest - Sat, Sept 24th

Post by mr x » Wed Jun 29, 2011 1:37 pm

Time to get planning brewmonkeys. Due to the overwhelming chilliness of late October evenings, I think we should be moving to an earlier weekend. The first and second weekends of October look good to me. Hosting can be here on Liverpool St.

Due to the overwhelming chilliness of any Oct evening and the fact that octoberfest is actually in Sept save for overflow sometimes I vote for the last weekend in Sept.

So, what do we think about the 25th of September. It's a Sunday, but that hasn't stopped us before. If I can manage to save a day off, I can probably do the Saturday...

That date looks okay to me at the moment. Last year Chalmers offered to host, although I did in the end. Maybe he still wants to this year.

Also, Susan offered for this year, but reports that the fire ant infestation in her backyard is a bit too much to have that many people over for the evening. It turns out that the ants actually seem to like beer (so they can't be all bad).

Well, that blows for me - I have tickets for the CFL game in Moncton that day. Oh well... :(

Saturday would be better, yes, although we have done Sundays....

Maybe start Sunday 2 pm?

I'm hopefully going to have an all-grain ready. Now I just need to find a way down from St John for the weekend.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Unless you learn to spell Saint John properly they likely won't let you back in.

Ain't no sound about it. It will be an awesome festival of food and beer. May just invite Troy Burtch to show him how it's done...

Hey Guys,

Since I am new, can you tell me how hoptoberfest works? I assume we bring our own brews/food? How does the day typically unfold, and how much tasty should one bring?

I hope I am not out of line by inviting myself (and likely my lady), but mr x mentioned it on my welcome thread.
Cheers,
Graham

You are welcome to come down. Bring some beer, maybe some food, although I am planning a brisket or pulled pork, so I'll have to think about what else will be needed. A lot of people bring kegs, and we definitively don't drink them dry, so it's your call there, say anywhere from 12 beer or a couple growlers to a full keg. I'm not sure what time we'll start, probably mid-afternoon...

I'm pretty sure I invited myself to my first Hoptoberfest too. It's not yet a formal tickets-required, black-tie only, event :-)

Nobody's going to be upset if a first-time attendee brings nothing at all - there will be plenty of everything. We would be disappointed, though, 'coz we love to try everybody else's beers! :beer2:
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

Alright, we are one month away. Time to start planning some food. I have a brisket, which I figure is due to be cooked. What else are we needing. Sides I guess, etc....

I can possibly bring something food-wise. I'll know closer to the event. If I wind up getting a car, I will transport my first ever all-grain from Saint John, assuming it tastes alright.
