Boxing Day Sales

Post by GuingesRock » Fri Dec 27, 2013 6:20 pm

My fourteen year old didn’t like his Christmas present, a guitar. Apparently he’s not a guitar sort of kid, even though he has a beautiful voice and is very musical. He had his heart set on upgrading his phone from a Samsung Galaxy to an i-phone 5S, so we have to take the guitar back and we braved Halifax today for the i-phone. It had to be a gold one, which was almost an impossible task, as there were none available in Atlantic Canada. We eventually found a fucking gold one, we were at a store when 2 gold ones arrived through the door. Also thank God, Telus had it on sale for $99 with a plan on sale too. And then there was the case to find, and it had to be just the right case.

People were trying to kill each other for a parking space. Then a lovely lady saw us, beckoned us with a seductive smile, and led us to where her car was, she was leaving. She valiantly drove straight at 3 cars who were trying to get in her spot, and forced them away so we could have it. Whoever you are out there…we love you!

It was lovely in the Mic Mac and the Halifax shopping centres. There were people standing in mile long lineups, discontented people swarming everywhere, but all I saw were those long haired lions …you know, the black and white striped ones, with angels riding them carrying martinis and beckoning me. There was harp music and bongo drums as well :)

I’m back at home now. The fourteen year old has been dropped of at his mothers, absolutely delighted with his i-phone, and my insanity has returned to its normal dull roar.

Did anyone else go crazy down town today?

On the plus side though. I found some fantastic martini glasses, sadly the angels have now disappeared. They were $29 for four, reduced from $79. Also I’m still alive to tell the tale.

It's a sad world today when we complain about a gift. Times have changed so much since I was a kid.
While it is nice to get something you really want these days, it wasn't always so. My wife can remember getting an apple and a chocolate bar along with a ( usually handmade ) toy in her stocking and there would be nothing under the tree.
I myself can remember a time that if I didn't wake up with a hard on, I would have nothing to play with.

Exactly! it was the whole thing that drove me over the edge. Thank God for angels and martinis.

I went to work, headed out after for a couple pairs of shoes. Picked up a pair of Reebok's and Adidas out the door for around 70. Sticker price would of put the two at $200 before tax.

I would have killed for a guitar at 14. Now he's got a phone he's probably going to drop in the toilet... lol

The wife dragged me to the mall to buy some winter boots, crazy crowd for SJ standards. But I managed to buy 4 Spieglau IPA glasses at sears for around $20 (half price), really nice glasses.
