Cross gender cover songs
Came across a few cover tunes over the past few days that I haven't heard in a while. Made me think of a list of great covers. What else is out there...
Patti Smyth/10000 maniacs - Because The Night (springsteen)
Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Old DIxie Down (the band)

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

As a side note, that's Jason Bonham on the drums, John Bonham's son. Also, note that Robert Plant sheds a tear or two near the end. I figure if you can make Robert Plant cry by playing his own song, it's a damn good cover.

Have to agree on the Kennedy Awards Heart/Zep cover...watched it again on 10 ft. screen...Robert Plant wiping tears, Barack Obama nodding in awe. And not just because it was one of the few Zep numbers not stolen from black artists LOL. In short, it was fookin' amayonazing.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm thinking a good cover of "Walk on the Wild Side" would be a double win here.

For the country/folk music fans:
Crazy - Patsy Cline (Willie)
Me & Bobby McGee - Janice Joplin (Kristofferson)
and the White Stripes cover of Jolene made me think of Jack White's cover of an early Tegan & Sara tune: Walking with a Ghost

That reminds me, Neko Case does a version of Tom Waits "Letters from a Hooker from Minneapolis on Christmas Eve".... Or whatever it's called.

"Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis" in fact.dean2k wrote:That reminds me, Neko Case does a version of Tom Waits "Letters from a Hooker from Minneapolis on Christmas Eve".... Or whatever it's called.
Holly Cole did a whole album of Waits tunes that's a-ok. (German Cabaret Singer) Ute Lemper did a nice job on a couple of his tunes on one of her albums. And Scarlett Johansen's album was almost entirely Waits covers too. Wouldn't recommend tracking that last one down though.
How about Van Halen covering "Dancing in the Street". Somehow less ridiculous than Bowie and Jagger doing it a few years later.

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons / Within Temptation
I don't love or hate either band, but the singer from Within Temptation is certainly easy on the eyes.

I really don't like Daft Punk at all - I wish I had heard this version first...
Get Lucky - Daft Punk / Halestorm
Halestorm seems to do a lot of covers.
