Happy Father’s Day - Cheers.

Post by GuingesRock » Fri Jun 13, 2014 6:03 pm

A few years ago my father’s day treat was lunch at Le Caveau Resteraunt at the Grand Pre winery near Wolfville. I ordered Cheese Soufflé. The waitress was hopeless and finally brought it to me when it was stone cold. I complained it was cold and they took it back and blasted it in the microwave until it resembled a scolding hot flat piece of camel turd. I don’t eat desert these days but back then I liked lemon meringue pie and some horrible stuff was eventually found at a farmers market. After 2 bites I gave up on it.

Being the manipulative bugger that I am, I played on the experience and since then I’ve managed to have the whole father’s day thing expanded to a weekend. :)

This year the father’s day weekend has been expanded further to include Friday as well. I took a day off work and went to the RB at lunch with my wife Kathleen. She volunteered to drive me home. I drank mostly the intergalactic lager, it was a toss-up between that and Fathom. I also ordered a flight. Every one of the beers on the flight were good beers, but I’m convinced I’m a hop man and not a malt man. As I said before I’m a leg man, not a breast man (roast chicken). I’m sure there are good breasts around, just like there are good malt beers around, but one glass of a malty beer is enough for me.

Why am I rambling on again? Mostly because I had a few beers at the RB and a drive home, but also because I wanted to say; don’t buy the father in the family a new BBQ or a new lawnmower. Send him to the pub for a bit of peace and quiet. He can shoot the beer breeze with the likes of Jimmy and Nash like I did today, I also got to meet chicanuck. That’s my father’s day treat right there.

What are all you other father's up too this weekend?

Originally, I had asked to head to Stillwell's for brunch for Father's Day, knowing that RB isn't open at noon on Sunday yet. However, plans have changed and I get to do up some epic burgers and craft brew at my place for my father. Alex is doing up menus and custom condiment cards so he's excited. Should also mention that Alex is an altar boy and will serve with the Bishop that morning as well, so, a good day all around.

GuingesRock - glad you enjoyed the start of your weekend. I know I'm going to enjoy mine as I also have time to brew on Saturday.

I'm in for a surprise weekend. Wife has kept her lips sealed. So either she has something epic planned or completely forgot.

As for Sunday if the day is open. I'll be brewing a stone levitation clone with my kids. They like to help.

I'm thinking not much. My wife is coming home from the hospital with our daughter after a planned c-section, so I can't imagine she had time to plan too much  . I'll likely get Emerson to help me brew on Sunday as well.

Congrats man. Pretty awesome Father's Day by the sounds of it. I have a daughter named Emerson, she couldn't be less interested in my brewing. Somehow Father's Day for me had turned into doing whatever my kids want to do. Fine by me as long as there's some beers involved.

Jimmy, Kathleen and I are sorry your friend is dying of cancer. These friends that we have in our life are our family too, and we feel for you.
